Harry Michael Ainsworth – A True New Orleans Hero
February 3, 2012
New Orleans lay to rest a true hero today. Mike Ainsworth, a father of three, was shot and killed early last week as he foiled a carjacking in his Algiers neighborhood. Mike had just waved goodbye to his two boys at the bus stop when he saw a lady being accosted on her way to work. Ainsworth was shot after trying to stop the perpetrator by jumping on the hood of the car. His children witnessed the attack and cried as their father died before them. The 44 year old contractor was a member of COPS 8, Citizens’ Organization for Police Support. The organization raises money and provides support for New Orleans’ 8th District Police Department. In his spare time, he volunteered at the station and anywhere he was needed in the community.
New Orleans Police are now asking his community to help the Ainsworth Family by making donations. Here is the information from the NOPD:
Donations may be made at any Whitney Bank. If anyone would prefer to make a tax-deductible donation, that person may write a check to “COPS 8, Inc” with “Ainsworth Benefit” written in the memo section, and mail or drop it off to B.B. St. Roman at the NOPD 8th District Station, 334 Royal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130. It will then be credited to the Ainsworth Benefit Account and the person will receive an acknowledgment with the Federal Tax ID Number.
