Parenting Made Simple. A Few Easy Tricks.

One of the most treasured attributes of a good parent is the ability to give full attention and listen to what your child has to say. Allow your children the opportunity to discuss what’s on their mind. If you do this, they will find it easier to discuss serious topics with you.

Never use derogative or shaming words to discipline your child. Using this type of language can be detrimental to his behavior. Instead, use more encouraging language to help him change to better behavior.

If you have adopted a child, prepare early for ways to lovingly address the subject when he is ready. It is natural for an adopted child to want to know about his biological parents, and the person they will ask is you. It is important that you tell them all they need to know regarding their biological family, so they do not hold anger toward you when they do learn the truth.

Parenting toddlers is very important. While it can be very difficult to teach toddlers to be patient, it is important for their healthy development to learn that they are not the only people in the world. If your toddler is being self-centered, have him sit in the corner, or give him a talking-to.

Foster a good relationship between you and your spouse. The behavior that the two of you model will be the basis for your child’s relationships later in life. This strong foundation will help your child as they grow into a responsible adult. You will be proud of the man that you have raised.

When administering medicine to your child, try mixing it with a sweet food. Orange juice is a great suggestion, but if that doesn’t work, you could just add a little bit of sugar to the medicine. If eye drops are needed, the easiest method is to have the child close their eyes, then put the drops on top of their eyelid. Have him then open his eyes, and the drops will slide in.

Look for ways to expose your child to things that will stimulate his senses. For example, when you are making gingerbread cookies let them smell nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger to help develop their sense of smell. Always look for items that have unique colors, tastes and textures that you could give to your child.

Your children should learn basic cooking skills so that, in the future, they can prepare their own food and will not have to go out to eat or order take out. Both boys and girls need to know the basics of cooking a nutritious meal for themselves and their family. It’s also an entertaining way to share quality time together.

Think about what message you are sending your child! You want your kids to feel like they have complete faith in your honesty.

Know what’s going on in all of your child’s classes. Teachers are glad to let parents know what is going on with their child when at school. So, get involved and learn what your child has been up to.

Children love to play. Not only do they enjoy it, it’s necessary for proper development. However, putting time in their children’s schedules for unstructured play is not all that good parents do.

Preschoolers often do not handle transition easily. Switching abruptly from one task to another can often be very stressful and result in melt-downs.

You have to remember that every child is unique. The methods that are effective for one of your children might not work on another. This applies to rewards as well as to punishments. However, you should still try to recall all of the various methods that you’ve employed.

When becoming a stepparent, you have to accept that your stepchildren may not like you. Kids are often upset that their parents split up, and may take that resentment out on you. By going slowly and not trying to accelerate a bond, you and your stepchild will gradually learn to coexist and perhaps even become buddies.
