Preschoolers often do not handle transition easily. New habits and new environments are a source of stress.
Children need to know that life isn’t a bed of roses, but don’t unnecessarily burden them. Seeing how those situations are handled will teach your child how to properly handle situations in the future and will provide valuable problem-solving skills. This will also give your children a better idea of what the world is really like.
One of the greatest ways to help your child cope with bullying is to share the personal experiences that you have had through your life with bullies, and really discuss the facts about bullying with him. Find out what policies are in place at school and make sure your children understand who is available to help during the school day.
Stay with the same routine at night to get your child ready for bed. A predictable routine helps your child prepare for sleep. As he moves through the various stages of the routine, getting into pajamas, brushing teeth and bedtime stories, he will feel comfortable and ready for sleep. When your child knows what will come afterward, he will give you less resistance.
Remember that not every child is an extrovert. There are many children who are much more introverted, which is perfectly acceptable. You should pay attention, however, if you child is painfully shy. If your child seems to be too withdrawn you may want to take them to their doctor to make sure that they do not have any issues going on that you may not have noticed.
It is important to take the time to teach your child how to cook. This will give them the ability to prepare their own food, and not rely on fast food or ordering out. Any child will feel accomplished if they know how to prepare a meal on their own. The time you spend teaching them to cook will also be quality bonding time.
Any child can benefit from the camaraderie and self-worth gained by playing a team sport. Giving your child the opportunity and encouragement to participate in team sports, and being there to watch their games, will strengthen your relationship, create shared memories, and build important life skills.
If you are travelling with youngsters, make sure you bring along some familiar items for them. While adults view vacations as a much-needed respite from the rest of the world, travel can be very stressful for young children. Making your child happy with unfamiliar surroundings may require nothing more than bringing along a beloved blanket or favorite toy.
Although it is important to spend time with your kids, it is also important to take time for yourself. This helps you be yourself and a great parent too.
It is important to see things from your child’s perspective whenever possible. Something like a missing toy might not be a big deal to you, but could be devastating to him.
Setting concise ground rules for behavior that are enforced with polite
phrases can work well at harmonizing your family. Instead of saying “no hitting” you could tell your children to “touch gently”, as it is a kinder way of saying the same thing.
Children are naturally independent, and offering them the option to help you do chores can make them feel more important. Allow children to help put away dishes, clean toys and choose their own clothes for the day. Let your kid sort the socks when it comes time to fold the laundry. The tasks will help them feel as though they are being independent, while giving you a hand.
Your children should witness you eating a healthy variety of foods that include vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Doing this will show your child what proper nutrition is, and since they mimic you in every way, they will choose healthier snacks on their own.
